The Coastal Botanical Garden of Veneto, better known as the Botanical Garden of Porto Caleri, is a Nature Reserve located within the Po Delta Regional Park. Situated in the southern part of the Rosolina Mare coastline, it covers an area of about 44 hectares and is a concentration of pure beauty, unspoiled nature, and uniqueness due to the presence of varied biodiversity.
Established by the Veneto Region in 1990 in an area later declared a Site of Community Importance (SCI) and incorporated into the territory of the Veneto Regional Park of the Po Delta, its purpose is to preserve a precious natural environment of significant scientific interest.
The various habitats it encompasses characterize its extent: the pine forest, the scrubland, freshwater wetlands, sand dunes, and brackish wetlands. An ecosystem that lives in perfect harmony, an environment that hosts various plant species, and where in particular periods of the year, you can witness exceptional blooms, such as those of wild orchids, the delicate limonium with its violet shades, and the typical sand dune flowers with their sunny yellow tones.
Unlike a botanical garden, human interventions are limited to the maintenance and protection of the paths that allow visitors. For this reason, the undergrowth is not altered, allowing its natural decomposition, which favors the formation of the humus layer necessary for the plants to nourish themselves.
Three trails of different lengths allow close observation of the environment: the shortest (600 m) focuses particularly on the pine forest, the intermediate one (1,650 m) goes from the coastline to the inner dunes excluding the brackish area, and the longest one (2,850 m) includes them all: pine forest, sand dunes, Mediterranean scrubland, and wetlands.
